Indirect pressure measurement was one of the attempts to cover unexpected pressure loss in one of the wheels hence it seems to have the disadvantage of being unable to identify equal conditions of too low pressure in all four wheels. Therefore it is most likely that direct pressure measurement in all four wheels will become a standard. Based on the minimum requirement for measuring the actual pressure in all wheels several additional information is driving the development of more sophisticated systems. The tire position identification is definitively a basic demand also since otherwise different pressures for front and rear tires can not be handled. The information can be used beneath under-pressure warnings also for the adaptation of other systems like suspension and braking. This article will describe the way how this element was shrunk and optimised for the next generation of low power tire pressure monitoring and systems without battery.
