Nissan and Jatco have jointly developed a new-generation Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with high torque capacity for front-wheel drive vehicles. Another second-generation CVT for vehicles with small displacement engines was developed concurrently and introduced on the Cube for Japan. These second-generation CVTs particularly the high torque capacity CVT, won the customers' acclaim for excellent driving performance and the highest level of fuel economy. The authors outline in the paper: - major specifications of the CVT, - the hydraulic control system, - the improved acceleration feeling (highly responsive shift servo linkage, improved acceleration response, acceleration sustainability), - improved fuel economy, - customer satisfaction, - strategic positioning of the CVT.
