The stresses in the newly constructed and modernized frames of railway car trucks were experimentally determined under changing static and dynamic load conditions to check the 'weak' zones in the frame elements and frame joints. Both vertical, horizontal and obligue pulse loads (up to 107 cycles) were simultaneously applied to observe formation of cracks related to the fatigue stress. The vertical load 200 plus/minus 105 kN, the transverse load 25 plus/minus 13 kN and the limit horizontal load plus/minus 35 kN were used for the study. In the presented case study of an improved frame, the first crack appeared after 1190000 loading cycles, the second after 2741000 cycles and the first crack grew up to fracture after 3988000 cycles. The tested frame appeared to be 4 times stronger than a conventional one.
