The Additive Industry continues to develop new technology to respond to the fast and ever changing needs of the Lubricant and OEM Industries in an innovative manner. More specifically the demands for increased lubricant quality in the Automotive Industry is driven by new legislation emanating from the European Commission. A specific focus is emissions legislation which continues to increase in severity in the automotive transport industry and will in the future be applied to an even greater degree to vehicles in the off highway market. The presentation describes how novel additives and lubricant formulations are being developed to meet these demands as well as highlighting the restrictions imposed both directly by legislation and by the demands to maximise the efficiency of new emission control devices. Also included is a brief appraisal of the impact on the fluid technology demands for drive line lubricants.
