Technological tests of laser-processing and ion-nitriding of set faces of 50H21G9N4 steel valves for internal combustion engines were carried out. For comparative reasons, bath and ion nitriding were also performed. The complex laser processing and nitriding resulted in a formation of heat, corrosion and abrasive wear-resistant layers. Use of the alloy (stellite) powders was found of a particular advantage. The developed process was recommended for improving the valves operated under rugged conditions (high heat load, air dustiness) in multifuel engines.
