CFD cabin flow analysis is a valuable enhancement of the simulation tools used in the product development process. Especially the application of the parametric cabin modeller enables a fast generation of CFD meshes of passenger compartments. Thus CFD cabin flow analysis can be applied even in an early phase of development. The extensive validation study has shown that CFD gives good results compared to experimental data when the CFD process is improved and adapted to the requirements of a specific application. Such an improved CFD process allows a detailed analysis of the flow field inside the passenger compartment and can be used to analyse new concepts of ventilation and air-conditioning. The de-icing performance of a HVAC system depends considerably on the design of the defrost vents and ducts as seen in many projects. Without simulation the de-icing performance can be evaluated only in a late phase when a prototype of the car is available for wind tunnel testing. With de-icing simulation these evaluations for the improvement of the design of defrost ducts and vents can be carried out in an early phase of development.
