A car-following model has been constructed for the generation of traffic stream in a driving simulator. The calculation of a following vehicle's acceleration rate uses relative speed and distance headway stimuli. The model has a number of parameters. Some of them were uniformly determined from macroscopic point of view. The other parameters reflect the variation of driving patterns among drivers. They were identified from experimental data obtained from a driving simulator. A genetic algorithm was applied in the identification process. Then, the model was evaluated by simulation that it could provide realistic car-following behavior.
