The main trends for mobile hydraulic products and systems are related to the market drivers: increasing performance, increasing functionality, increasing comfort, envelope reduction, cost reduction and fulfilling environmental as well as legal requirements. This paper outlines some important developments for the products: axial piston units, external gear units, mobile controls and mobile electronics. Additionally, three systems and applications are briefly discussed: wheel loader, backhoe loader and anti-slip function. The incitements of the mentioned developments could be summarised in principle by six main drivers from the market: increasing of performance, increasing of functionality, increasing of comfort, reduction of envelope, reduction of costs and fulfilling environmental as well as legal requirements. For the products an increase of performance means either an enhancement of absolute values (e.g. maximum pressure p'max' and speed n'max' or an increase of the efficiency under same circumstances respectively over the hole range (e.g. start-up etan -> min. An optimised acoustical behaviour could be advantageous for comfort reasons, but also to fulfill legal requirements. However the major trend is to design smarter products by the integration of valves, sensors and On Board Electronics. Increasing the performance in systems means often to find the fight architecture and to define special applied products, like shown for the backhoe loader supply pump. In most applications the main trend is to enhance the comfort of the operator/driver and to introduce new functionality (e.g. oscillation suppression and anti-slip). This is mostly achieved by the use of electronic networks, actors, sensors and controllers. Hereby, it is important to keep in mind the enormously increasing demands for safety and reliability.
