In the increased global awareness towards the environment, auto manufacturers are positioning the preservation of environment as the most important issue. For this, reduction of CO2 emission is a very important point. In this paper, the current situation and future trends in stamping technique as an effective way to reduce CO2 by lightening the automobile weight, are discussed. Toyota's approaches towards the recent technology of forming technique for high strength steel, aimed towards the lightening of auto body weight, are summarized, namely applying high strength steel, tailored blank and selective hardening. These lightening techniques are utilized for optimizing sheet thickness and structural rigidity. Furthermore, the current situation of forming simulation to enhance the usage of high strength steel is described by noting practical examples. In the progressing digitization of die making, to share knowledge by analyzing past know-how's scientifically is believed. Establishment of reliable technology will be sought and this will lead to new improvements. Furthermore, environmental concerns must be addressed from the stamping field not only by lightening body weight but also from the standpoint of reducing resources. It is necessary to proactively reduce scrap by improving material yield and reduce rejection rate through mass production.
