In this paper, the application of a production-related simulation model in the automotive industry is studied in order to predict the production sequence of car bodies. The goal is the improvement of an existing abstract simulation model to be able to predict the production situation accurately several days in advance. The intention is to apply and extend the abstract simulation model for short-term forecasts. Each production area is described by a Black Box method. The aim is the abstraction of a production area into a unique modelling element which needs no information concerning its inner structure or correlation inside the production area. This concept comes from Systems Engineering and characterises a dynamic system which is described by its function and its input and output quantities. The elements, the inner states and the structures of the System are not observed.
