A new recycling process for ASR, the 'Thermo-bath' process, has been developed, and a pilot plant test was executed successfully, and both separated floats and sediments were evaluated. The results are shown as follows; 1) High separation performance of 'Thermo-bath' was confirmed by a continuous test for 50 hours in 1200 tons / year pilot plant. ASR was separated into plastics and metals in only 20 minutes. Plastics were recovered as floats (73 % of ASR), and 79 % or more of the chlorine was removed. Metals with glass and sand etc. were recovered as sediments. 2) The simulation test of floats gasification in raceway was carried out. The gasification efficiency of floats was higher than that of pulverized coal and the same as plastics, so the floats can be recycled as a reducing agent for blast furnace with high efficiency. 3) No problems could be observed in the floats injection test to blast furnace. 4) High concentrations of iron scrap and non-ferrous metals were easily recovered respectively by using a hammer mill, a magnetic separator and an induction separator form sediments. 5) the total recycling rate of ELV becomes 96% when ASR has been treated in 'Thermo-bath' process, and it can achieve a target of 95% by 2015.
