This article describes the main steps for inline inspection of a newly constructed 40 inch crude oil pipeline by intelligent pigging. The pipeline was constructed in the period 1996 to 2001 and connects the oil terminal in Pivdenny close to Odessa with Brody, which is located close to Lviv in the west of the Ukraine. The transmission medium for the different pigs was water taken from the River Riv. After the problems encountered by an excessive amount of welding rods left in the pipeline have been solved the minimum velocity as required for the intelligent pig could be maintained. The project was financed by the European Union in the framework of TACIS and awarded to the joint venture of PLE (Pipeline Engineering GmbH) and Rosen B.V. While Rosen performed the inspection work on site and provided the report, PLE was responsible for project management.
