The validation of configuration data utilized, eg. inside the Radio Block Center (RBC) is one of the aspects for safe European Train Control System operation. This article describes one new way to reduce the validation effort using the Extensible Markup Language (XML - recommendation of World Wide Web Consortiums (W3C) 19980210 standard). At the time being, it is not the goal to achieve the approval of configuration data with formal methods only. Nevertheless, those checks are very helpful to reduce the number of faults, time and costs. The Alcatel RBC development uses such XML facilities to successfully validate complex route map data.
