Automobile brake pedal and accelerator pedal are located at different positions by a distance apart from each other introducing a time delay (the difference between the time when actual braking action occurs and the time when the driver wants braking action). This time delay is the cause of many automobile collisions. In this research, a conceptual design has been modeled to actuate acceleration and braking system and analyzed for prospectus. ADVANTAGE: -Acceleration and braking done by the same pedal results toe movement time (from accelerator pedal to brake pedal) zero. Therefore reaction time and stopping distance are reduced by 20 % to 29 %; -Less fatigue, because no useless physical movement is required as in separate pedal system; Braking is done by toe movement opposite to acceleration, which will be ergonomically and physically more comfortable to the driver; -It is obvious that life organ tries to get away before getting shock by collision and the inertia makes the upper body go ahead in forward direction to the place of possible collision. Therefore, drivers try to resist upper body movement due to inertia by applying force with the ankle on the vehicle bed, which will rotate brake cam to push the brake lever for braking action. This will initiate braking action instead of steering aside in case of panic situation; -No possibility of erratic push of accelerator pedal instead of brake pedal; -Gives the opportunity to modify the brake cam and accelerator cam for automatic braking action if the driver falls in sleep on the wheel or is intoxicated. DISADVANTAGE: -It will take time and efforts to make the drivers knowledgeable about the new technique for getting acceleration and braking action by the same pedal. Based on the above discussion and analysis, it is strongly believed that cam actuated accelerator and brake pedal combination will be more ergonomic and robust in normal and panic situation, and it will help avoid automotive collision by reducing vehicle's stopping distance. A research experiment is strongly recommended to verify this conceptual design and there is no doubt that such kind of experiment is highly potential to save rite and asset we loosing every day all over the world.
