The friction behaviour of polymeric materials differs significantly from that of metals. Many polymers show a friction behaviour which is dependant on sliding velocity and so the friction forces increase with higher sliding speed. This behaviour is unknown with metals. In a region of static friction, which means sliding speeds smaller than 5 mm per hour, especially lubricated polymer sliding systems tend more or less to expressive stick slip effects. To allow measurement of these effects at very low sliding speeds, a static friction test bench has been built up, containing a very sensible torsion wire for measurement of the static friction moments. On this test bench the stick slip behaviour of different polymer-polymer lubricant combinations has been tested. Results are presented and discussed.
