A sacrificial specimen is a small fatigue specimen designed to show fatigue damage sufficient earlier than a hosting structural member when it is secured onto this member. Its purpose is a diagnosos of structural safety based on the monitored result of the sacrificial specimen. We present a newly developed high-sensitive type sacrificial specimen ( HSTS). In order to increase the fatigue sensitivity, a mechanism to amplify the member stress is newly applied. The HSTS is applied to a smooth specimen, and fatigue tests are carried out under constant stress amplitude and block loading. The HSTS was applied to longitudinal members of an actual ship and the fatigue monitored during a service period of 1,2 years. The HSTS showed enough sensitivity applicable to real structures and featured stable fatigue properties.
