As environment surrounding vehicle is drastically changing and with global warming and energy problem, steps to improve fuel consumption and to regulate emission is being focused. To overcome the obstacles, power electronics plays an important role in solving a problem and there are needs to power up to higher voltage electrical system, or to 42 volt system. Currently, a production targeted technology development is globally starting to take place. International harmonization is the most important agenda for establishing 42V as the standard voltage for the next generation vehicle. In this paper, from vehicle energy management stand point, a vehicle type is separated into three category which consists of hybrid vehicle such as Prius, an idle stop vehicle and mild hybrid vehicle. A study was conducted with respect to motor power, electric voltage and vehicle character of where each type of vehicle fits in place. Especially with mild hybrid vehicle of where the MG (motor generator) is located, a belt driven method and crankshaft mounted method is being looked into.
