The paper deals and will presents the results of an extensive numerical and experimental work aimed to the reduction of the engine noise inside the binnacle of a GT high speed car using different active noise and vibration approaches. The car is completely made by carbon fibres and the engine is rigidly attached to the body. Several attempts in reducing the structureborne noise by classical passive methods were made in the past with limited effectiveness. Many different active control approaches were studied and also experimentally tested on the car, both in laboratory and in running conditions. Some laboratory control test results (using different concepts of speaking panels) were encouraging and the measured noise reductions were sensible. The second step of the work consisted in optimising an ANC conventional system using two control microphones and two loudspeakers. After the laboratory optimisation, several tests on the road were conducted and a maximum 6 dBA noise reduction has been obtained. In parallel with the experimental activity, an extensive numerical work was carried out trying to implement a concept of active vibration isolation on the engine mounts using advanced actuators.
