Infrared aerosols have proved effective in infrared countermeasure, since they have the special ability to screen infrared energy and can thus obscure infrared reconnaissance and guiding device. It has been realized that the infrared extinction depends upon many factors such as aerosol material compositions, particle concentration and particle size distributions. Hence particle size of the obscurants must be carefully chosen when other factors have been given. In this paper we calculated the infrared extinction characteristics of the brass aerosol. Now that similar calculations based on the Lambert-Beer's Law had been carried out, we employed here a more generalized theory In the calculation, we assumed the distribution function of the particle size to be lognormal and the particle shape to be spherical. Results from both Lambert-Beer's Law and the generalized theory were given and compared.
