It is becoming increasingly important in the automotive industry to focus on the sensory environment of the vehicle in order to maintain a competitive advantage. It is now recognized that the major sound sources are not the only source that need be considered. Component sound quality is another important factor affecting customer impressions of overall vehicle quality. In this paper, the effective factor and some improvements of wiper noise are investigated. The wiper noises of vehicles were measured at driver ear position by BAS system and the target sound was decided through the jury test. In order to study wiper noise, FRF (frequency response function) and VRF (vibration response function), the vibration and noise of two vehicles are compared. The vibrations and noise were caused by the transient excitation of the wiper at turning point and motor noise etc. The corresponding transfer paths were investigated by the application of accelerometers at windshield glass, wiper arm and blade and motor mounting point. The effective factors were investigated by the subjective impression. To improve wiper noise, arm pressure and linkage mounting rubber hardness and blade type were changed and the changing wiper noises were considered by jury test.
