Design and production of new automotive high power modules require the availability of suitable basic technologies and production lines. Specific key components with optimised features, e.g. with respect to size and to mechanical and thermal ruggedness, have to be developed. Automotive specific mounting and cooling concepts have to be evaluated. Production and quality assurance procedures have to be adapted to the high power requirements. The impact of the power enhanced modules to the safety and reliability level of the cars has to be checked and, if necessary, additional system redundancies have to be implemented. And all these activities have to contribute to one general target: Automotive power systems with aerospace-grade reliability at the price of domestic appliances.
