A 85 kVA integrated on-board charger was developed to allow an electric bus to be charged on an inexpensive three-phase 400V/50 Hz socket. The aim of the project is to reduce significantly the global cost of electric buses and their charging infrastructure. That is why the charger uses the traction inverter components (IGBT, control, air cooling). The power factor is kept near 1. Low frequency electromagnetic compatibility emission are avoided by a Pulse Width Modulation control which limits the input current harmonics values. The paper presents the power converter structure, its control and the test results as input current waveforms.
