TOYOTA has developed the e-com, a new concept of small commuter EV (electric vehicle) for personal mobility adopting the latest EV technology. The newly developed, small, inexpensive Ni-MH battery is integrated into the vehicle concept. The battery detection unit and the cooling system which are necessary for the battery management system such as SOC (State Of Charge) calculation, charge control and battery temperature control, are assembled inlto one package. Both the 200 V and 100 V charging systems are provided for higher convenience. This paper introduces the battery adopted to the e-com and explains its management system and packaging.
