As a fruit of the longstanding effort in the development of powertrain technologies which address environmental issues, Nissan has completed a high-performance and compact hybrid unit - a Nissan Hybrid System. This system combines a highly efficient engine, a high-output compact motor, a high-output Lithium battery and the continuously variable transmission, a unique Nissan technology. By using the technology to comprehensively control the flow of energy among the units, including the engine motor, under the optimum condition fuel economy was significantly improved, while at the same time resulting in attractive driving performance.
