For an effective simulation of vehicle motion a realistic driver model is as necessary as the dynamic vehicle model. In this paper, the human perception process is described by discrete event techniques that also allow human deficiencies to be addressed. The hybride driver model described is able to reproduce the behaviour of different driver types. It can be adapted to various driver types. In addition, the cognitive process is modelled. The influence of an additional mental workload on the drivers performance can be simulated as well. When a human driver reaches his personal physical limits, his control performance rapidly deteriorates.
