Described are the possible range of regenerative braking operation, and the asymmetrical control of multibridges developed in order to improve the ripple factor of dc current, the power factor of ac input, and the higher harmonics rate in ac input current, with regard to ac electric locomotives with a thyristor system and regenerative braking. Also, some problems in thyristor control are discussed and solutions are proposed.
