Two different programs to study the impact of methanol/gasoline blends on evaporative emissions are described. One used bench scale simulation of a vehicle fuel system to evaluate a volatility adjusted blend while the other involved fleet trials of a splash blend. Hardware approaches to containing additional emissions generated from splash blends are discussed. Results indicate that volatility adjusted blends do not cause any degradation in vehicle evaporative system performance and that hardware modifications to vehicles can effectively contain increased evaporation from splash blends.
