So called 'Surge', the force and aft vibration of the vehicle, is sometimes difficult to escape in diesel trucks and buses. The surge is liable to take place when the vehicle cruises at low speed, and is generally understood to be the problem of the engine speed governing. The authors made a theoretical investigation on the surge phenomena and found that the surge could be suppressed by a control scheme in which the wheel speed is duly taken into consideration. An experimental investigation was also made in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new control scheme in combination with an efficient microcomputer and an electronic governor equipment, which turned out to be a great success.
