The Multi-Function Fabrication Robotic Workcell is a machining system designed to perform profile and lightening hole routing, pilot hole drilling, and cutoff sawing of a familily of stretch-formed extrusions used in the wings of the C-130 aircraft. The system has reduced actual machining time by 75 % and has eliminated a considerable amount of material handling and staging time. Implementation of this workcell culminates a two-year development effort that has produced several unique design features. This paper introduces and explains some of those features, including the ARCS robot calibration system, the automated workstation and the multitool end effector.
