This report concerns a 'ceramic absorber', a universal device developed for automotive electronic devices, and focuses on the followings: This device has the form of strip lines. It is connected to the I/O terminals of the printed circuit board of automotive electronic devices, and thereby absorbs electromagnetic waves from the wire harnesses and prevents interferences therefrom. It has been developed as a result of studies on high frequency attenuation losses in flat printed circuit, and by making use of such phenomena. The device, which is intended to increase attenuation in a very short line, is based on a ceramic plate with a low propagation velocity and high thermal loss characteristics. Analytical studies were therefore carried out on desirable physical properties for ceramic plates. Material selection and experimental analysis were performed based on the idea to make full use of dielectric losses due to dispersion in polar dielectrics, and maximize dielectric losses within the required frequency range. The ability and superiority to other methods of this 'ceramic absorber' were verified by irradiation tests in our automobile electromagnetic test room.
