The results of comparative investigations of materials applied for railway vehicle's brake shoes are presented in this paper. The braking distance as well as the amplitude of vibration of brake shoe-railway vehicle's wheel system were measured in real conditions for investigated materials. The abrasive wear size definited as loss of weight in conditions simulating the brake shoe-wheel cooperation was measured in order to estimate abrasive wear resistance. The dependence of measured quantities on microstructure of investigated materials is discussed.
