Poor cold startability and increased engine wear still present problems for alcohol usage in automobile engines. Without any additional starting aids, the minimum cold starting temperature is approximately 11 Cel. By using greatly improved droplet preparation and electric heat additon, this limit can be reduced to approximately -20 Cel. Corrosion and wear of fuel systems and engine parts is increased with methanol fuels over that for gasoline. This is due to the greatly increased diffusion rates through the oil film of the corrosive condensed combustion gases and water when this condensate contains methanol.
