This paper describes the analysis, design and hardware realization of a pneumatic active suspension system. The system was designed to improve the lateral ride quality of an intercity passenger rail vehicle. The system includes a compressor, accumulator, pneumatic control valve, two airsprings, sensors (load cells and accelerometers) and control signal conditioners. Preliminary experimental laboratory results indicate that the desired system bandwidth can be achieved.
