The study of boiler furnace aerodynamics is a very essential problem for the improvement of fuel economy. Modelling of prototype furnace is a widely used technique, due to the experimental restrictions involved by the large dimensions or the high temperature of the gas flow. Two dimensional flow models for top-fired and side-ways flow marine boilers are used. Different model geometries with variable flowpath resistance are adopted. Flow pattern is visualized by the tracer technique. Velocity profiles and static pressure distributions are measured. Numerical calculations using upwind-differencing scheme are carried out. The numerically computed models are in good agreement with the experimental results.
