A hybrid computer model of the heave dynamics of an air cushion with a segmented skirt and an automatic vent valve control system was used to investigate the effects of control gain and valve set point variations on the hull's response to step changes in ground level. Results have shown that there is an optimum value of control gain and the valve set point position can be set to zero to minimize flow power requirements without significantly changing the dynamical performance.
