The vehicle industry has been engaged for quite some time in setting up a new vehicle research system, permitting qualitative and quantitative statements regarding a vehicle concept already in the initial development stage. The essential point of this concept are vehicle substitute models which operate together with test stands or prototypes in a permanent interactive mode or dialogue. This simulation technique serves mainly the purpose of obtaining suitable information of vehicle concepts by means of a meaningful combination of test activities. These test stand controlled vehicle substitute systems enable one to foresee the suitability of a concept at a considerably earlier stage than before.
