Theoretical and experimental studies of deposit formation in marinised aero-type gas turbines exposed to a salt laden environment are described. The relationships between the site and amount of deposition in relation to temperature contours and corrosion are discussed with particular reference to nozzle guide vanes and rotor blades. The interrelation between the mechanisms of deposit formation and hot corrosion are discussed.
