An ultrasonic inspection device has been developed to detect internal flaws just under the surface of marine propeller blades. An ultrasonic transducer automatically scans the blade area. If ultrasonic waves are reflected by internal flaws, echo signals are plotted on an X-Y-recorder, obtaining a C-scope display. The device also has a B-Scope display to show the depth of the flaws. Thie nondestructive testing device has been applied to numerous propeller blades since 1976, and has played an important role in quality assurance. (Wassmann)
