Interim results of a ten year environmental exposure program for advanced composites are presented. Two boron expoxy materials were utilized to fabricate aluminum honeycomb sandwich panels for long term exposure testing. The panles were painted with an epoxy primer, polyurethane topcoat aircarft protection system. Exposure was conducted on the roof of a building at the McDonnell Aircraft facility in St. Louis, Missouri. After removal from exposure, the honeycomb panels were machined into individual test specimens. Testing included 0 deg Tension 0 deg Compression, Crossplied Tension, 90 deg Tension and Interlaminar Shear. Laminate moisture content was also determined. Results are presented from the first five years of a ten year program, including tests after 0, 0.5, 1, 3 and 5 years' exposure. (Wassmann)
