Steels are being developed for use in automotive mass reduction programs. The types of steel and the influence of chemistry and processing on their properties are discussed. It is shown that the niobium bearing 360 MPa yield strength hot rolled steel has similar spot weldability and closely similar formability to conventional mild steels. (DePo)
