As one solution to meet the recent demand for reduction of running cost and maintenance work on marine propulsion plant, we Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. in Japan and Litton Automated Marine Systems in U.S.A. have jointly developed a Diesel Marine Trend Analysis System (DMTAS). The system fault diagnosis is considered unique because it provides three methods of fault isolation; Fault Dictionary Method, Inverse Matrix Method and Trend Analysis. Accurate and useful diagnostic results can be obtained by selecting suitable combination of these three methods. The hardware of DMTAS is Litton Microprocessor system, of which superior systems used in U.S. Navy. We believe this newly developed DMTAS will bring ship owners a great deal of profit by preventing major engine faults, reducing maintenance work and running cost.(Wassmann)
