The problem of periodic heating of ocean is described by a nonlinear heat conduction equation with the assumption that the action of turbulence can be parametrically represented by thermal eddy diffusion coefficient. The equation is then linearized by the optimal linearization method and the approximate relations following from this procedure are presented. Some qualitative aspects of the optimally linearized temperature wave, concerning the choice of the reference temperature gradient for example, are discussed.
