This paper is a case study of fuel saving possibility through reuse of air which would normally be exhausted to the outside. At the Wheel and Brake Division of Budd Equipment in Frankfurt, Ohio there are four high volume automatic truck wheel welding stations. Each welding station uses twin MIG wire feeders and the usual solution to the huge amount of smoke generated is to exhaust it to the outside. But, in this case, the air is cleaned of particulate by self cleaning electronic air cleaners and recirculated to the inside, thereby saving 100 % of the heat in the plant air.
