The offshore oil fields are becoming more important everyday, because of shortages in oil supplies and increasing energy demand. The favorable offshore oil structures seem to occur where the environmental conditions are most severe. Therefore, the field operations should not be designed just for the optimum technical performance, but there should also be an ability to design for optimum economic results. Present study describes a mathematical model for finding optimum policies for the following problems of offshore oil fields: (a) How many wells should be drilled from each of the platforms? (b) What is the optimum location of each platform? (c) What kind of pipeline design should be selected for a given field? (d) What size of pipeline diameter should be assigned to each segment of pipeline tree? and (e) What should be the desired production policy? Algorithms for the solution of this problem have been developed and are shown to be computationally efficient, rapid and good enough in the sense of optimality.
