The U.S. Navy is currently developing a radical new concept in the ship-to-shore transportation of equipment and personnel. The Amphibious Assault Landing Craft (AALC) program is the Navy's advanced development effort in this area. One of the craft being developed under this program, the high performance air cushion vehicle (ACV), JEFF Craft, is mainstay of this concept. Two contractors, Bell Aerospace and Aerojet Liquid Rocket Gompany are about to begin systems checkout and shakedown tests on the first advanced development crafts, the JEFF (A) and JEFF (B). This paper discusses the installation features of the Lycoming TF40 Marine Gas Turbine, which provides the lift and propulsive power for both craft. In particular, the intake and exhaust, electrical and control, mounting, starting, and lube and fuel systems interfaces are examined and compared.
