Describes the penetron technique and discusses the unique problems that have to be solved if it is to be satisfactorily applied to a colour display. The colour display with which we are all familiar is the TV. Though performance can be expected to improve with time, the current state of the art is such that displays based on the raster and shadow mask techniques of TV do not meet the picture resolution requirements of the modern sophisticated user in the air traffic control type of environment. To meet these demands a very different system is needed. This is beam penetration (also known as penetron) applied to a cursive cathode ray tube.
