For a dock with facilities for ships of 280000 tonnes' capacity, and with installed power in excess of 20 MVA, the distribution and motor-starting equipment draws on a large part of the CEM product range. The allocation of 85 prefabricated KIT25 cells among the supply and transformer stations, pumping stations, cranes and repair centre is explained with the aid of the 63/20/5.5 kV distribution network diagram. From the protection aspect the four-level selectivity of the 20 kV network is discussed and the integrated logic measures taken to reduce the top-level delay from 960 ms to an acceptable 700 ms are outlined. Autotransformer starting of the evacuation pumps to limit the 20 kV voltage drop and current spike is described and illustrated. Most of the 18 distribution transformers for 220 V, 380 V and 5.5 kV are of the ISOCEM pattern integrally filled with pyralene dielectric. Modular pluggable units provide for lighting, distribution and low-voltage motor starting.
