The electronic generation of bearing information in a shipboard Tacan system overcomes the bandwidth limitations inherent in mechanical rotating antennas, enabling the full Tacan frequency band to be used. Electronic scanning of diode controlled parasitic elements also improves system reliability and removes the need for complex RF feed and control networks.
