Discusses three magnetic suspension/propulsion systems for trains faster than 500 km/h on the Tokaido Line. The development of the three types of superconducting magnets (M-1, W-1, L-1) and their feasibility and economic feasibility are discussed. An outline of the three year project (1971-73) is given.
