The requirements for minimum weight structural designs in aerospace applications of sandwich plates inherently involve considerations of situations in which the assumptions leading to geometrically linear formulations of structural analysis problems are not valid. In order to predict correctly the sandwich behaviour, it has frequently become necessary to employ more exact equilibrium equations or strain-displacement relationships. The author demonstrates how his previous analysis (see abstr. A10999 of 1974) can be modified to form a stiffness matrix which accounts for the geometrically non-linear behaviour of sandwich plates.
